“Most people are held back by their self-limiting beliefs. The way you burst these mental chains is with a dream list. The very fact that you can write down something that you would love to have someday means that you probably have with you, right now, the ability to achieve it.”
Change Your Thinking Change Your Life
Writing a dream list will help break through those self-limiting beliefs. Brain Tracy explains in the quote above that just writing down your dreams will help you achieve it. He also explains that, if you are able to dream it, you probably have the ability to achieve it.
So many of us are scared of what will happen if we write down these dreams. In the past, I would hear people say write down your dream. I would think about writing them down, but I would drag my feet in writing down my dreams. My thought was that I didn’t want to write it down or say it out loud because I didn’t want to jinx myself. The truth is that you can’t jinx yourself.
Actually, the only way to jinx yourself is to not write it down and not pursue your dreams. If you don’t write down and pursue your dreams, you definitely won’t see those dreams come to fruition. Writing down those dreams will help you get your mind fixed on goals and will help you take action toward your dream life.
When I went to graduate school, I finally broke down and wrote that I wanted to receive my masters. This was a difficult process for me so writing it down helped remind me of the goal. Every time I wanted to quit, I looked at the dream and pushed through. It also was helpful in setting goals. We will talk more about goal-setting in another blog, but, once I wrote down my dreams, it was easier to break them down into goals or action steps as I like to call them.
Challenge: Take out a piece of paper and write down a list of your dreams. Describe these dreams in full detail. This way you will see exactly what you want. Later, this will help you to start breaking them down into goals or action steps.
