How Gratitude Changed My Life!!!

See the strained look in my eyes. I was very depressed and physically in pain.

This week we are talking about a gratitude mindset. This concept was a major turning point in my life. No one understands what I felt years ago when I could hardly function in society. I didn’t want to get up out of bed because I never wanted to face the day. It was a horrible feeling and a struggle that I couldn’t take any more.

Finally, I started to really listen to what I was teaching. I was going to write about something else for today. Suddenly, I needed to talk to you and tell you what is going on in my life. Do I have it all together? “No!” There are still things that I am working on but the joy that I feel as I work on myself and my business is amazing.

Every day I fought thoughts that would cripple me from doing what I really wanted to do. I wanted to help people by becoming a personal development coach. Authoring books that teach personal development and children’s books that teach values. Yet, I couldn’t because my eyes were focused on a deficit and I couldn’t see prosperity in my own life.

Do you see the difference in my eyes. There is a sparkle that people had not seen for years.

One day, I was listening to someone speak about how they were so grateful. They were grateful for big things and for small things. They were so happy and their happiness was so contagious. This is what I wanted, and I realized this attitude of gratitude was exactly what I wanted.

Every day, I added gratitude affirmations. The affirmations always started with “I am happy and grateful for…” and this caused amazing results. What I feel is pure joy most of the time. As I go through my day, I find more things to add to my grateful list.

When things pop into my head that threaten to steal my joy, I start to say my gratitude affirmations. While I am feeling these affirmations, I also use my emotions to really feel the gratitude. We can muster all the emotions we want by thinking about something that arouses that emotion. For instance, if you are an actor in a play and need to cry in a scene, you think about a tragic moment in your life.

This is so true in really feeling the gratitude. If you think about something that you are truly grateful for, those gratitude feelings will start to manifest. One thing that I always think about when I am trying to manifest my feelings of gratitude is my husband who always believes and supports me. You would think that I should be able to always stay happy with a husband like Brenton but I have faced a lot of sadness in my life and I have to choose to not allow them to steal my joy.

You know what I am about to say. Yup! Gratitude allowed me to remove those feelings and replace them with positive and more powerful ones. Now, it only takes me a few minutes to get into a grateful mindset and go on with my day.

Right now, you are thinking, how can I do that. Well, it is actually very easy. If I can do it, anyone can. It has nothing to do with your age, race, religion, intelligence, or how attractive you are. This is for anyone who partakes in the process. This is my mission: to help everyone live a beautiful, joyful life. Gratitude is the first step toward this kind of life.

Challenge: It is now your turn to work on gratitude. Make a list of gratitude affirmations like the ones that I will leave below and say them before you go to sleep at night, when you wake-up in the morning, and when those negative thoughts creep into your mind and threaten to steal you joy.

I am happy and grateful for a family that loves me unconditionally.

I am happy and grateful that I have a home where I can rest.

I am happy and grateful for the car that helps me pick up my kids everyday.

I am happy and grateful for my mattress that supports me while I sleep.

I am happy and grateful for water that I can drink when I am thirsty.

I am happy and grateful that I can read so that I am able to learn from all types of media.

I am happy and grateful that I am able to provide for my family.

I am happy and grateful for the joy I feel every day.

My life has never felt this amazing. I am truly happy and see why I should be happy!

  1. This is such a great post, thank you for being so open about your experiences! I strongly agree with you in that having an attitude of gratitude can really make any inevitable struggles in life much more manageable. I think this is really well addressed by the field of positive psychology, which is a subject that I am passionate about and write about in my own blog. This field directly asks what it means to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. Feel free to check it out sometime and I welcome any contributions that you may have to the content. Great post, and I hope that you are doing well!
